janee was talking in this lesson about making our own patterns from textures we photograph.
i love to take photographs of cracks in cement, the sides of buildings, rusted metal and all kinds of crazy stuff. this is the first time i've felt like i have a clue about what to do with them in ps so i got pretty excited about it and decided to make a couple of styles since janee introduced it in a sidebar to the lesson.

this is a small crop from a photo i took of a rusted tank. i used a levels adjustment layer to turn it into a saturated rust orange [you can see the orange hue in the next image] and from that made the pattern used on the following text samples.
